Toureen Retail complete Co-op Isle of Skye redevelopment as store re-opens following overhaul
Toureen Retail was appointed to redevelop the Co-op’s supermarket petrol station and kiosk in Broadford, the second largest village on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
The Co-op store in Broadford re-opened following a significant investment programme, including expanding the size of the petrol station including the installing of new fuels infrastructure. The project also included a new canopy and the complete refurbishment of the 10,000 sq. ft. convenience store.
Toureen Retail and its partners strived to ensure minimum disruption to the Broadford local community while the redevelopment works took place. Fuel sales were uninterrupted during the length of the project due to the installation of a temporary fuel tank which was essential for serving customers and the emergency services. In addition, a temporary convenience store was constructed and this became pivotal for accommodating the busy local community in the surrounding area.
Careful consideration and planning with the local community and environment in mind; together with the exceptional communication shown to the local Councillors, resulted in the Toureen project team proudly receiving commendation for the redevelopment works by a local publication.
“During the present redevelopment of the Broadford Co-op, I think the combined forces of the contractors and the store’s own staff deserve to be commended. Together, they are co-ordinating a clearly intricate construction process ingeniously and safely, keeping the retail space operating in a greatly reduced space. Well done!”
The revamped petrol filling station now has four new self-service checkouts and six new pump islands with 42 nozzles (supplying four grades of fuel as well as LPG). Also included in the redevelopment is a new jet wash, a car valeting service, a picnic area and a community room to bring groups and causes together.
