Toureen Group partner with Luton Council to support local schools
Toureen Group continue to commit to local initiatives.
Toureen Group, along with a selection of other local companies from wide ranging industries, was asked by Luton Council to take part in their 16x16 University of Bedfordshire conference Market Place event. The Council is working closely with local schools to support students in developing their qualities, skills and understanding of the world of work.
The event was held at the University of Bedfordshire for students in Year 9. Each company was asked to speak with groups of students, offering them an opportunity to get to know the range of career options available, with the aim of further developing their listening and communication skills in the process.
Toureen Group representative, Sharon O’Flynn spoke to various groups of year 9 students on the day with a brief company introduction, an overview of the industry as a whole and the range of career opportunities available within the Construction sector;
"At an age where many of these young students are still deciding on their future careers, we thought that this event was a great way for them to hear from a range of companies across different industries, essentially giving them an insight into the opportunities available to them. More specifically, we wanted to educate the students on the vast career opportunities available in our sector – the construction sector. From Quantity Surveying, site based roles such as Engineers, Site Managers and Project Managers, Design, accounts, buying, HR, Marketing, the list is endless. There is an opportunity for everyone in the construction industry."
The feedback received from school staff, Luton Council and, more importantly, the students themselves was very positive, with many students stating that they now feel both confident and motivated to achieve their future goals and to explore their career opportunities.
